Subaru presents the WRX that we would like to have in Europe

The Subaru WRX stopped being available in our country years ago, but that does not mean that the same thing happens in other places. In the United States, for example, it is still very popular and the latest from the Japanese brand is the arrival of a new sports version that many enthusiasts would enjoy throughout the European continent. All a compact sports car with a turbo engine, manual transmission, Brembo brakes and adaptive suspension…

Goodbye to the analog box

For its development, the Japanese brand has focused on the WRX TR that it already presented at the end of 2023. This means that the aesthetics of both are practically the same, slightly more aggressive than a standard WRX and with the side mirrors, shark fin antenna and rear spoiler painted in Crystal Black Silica, while brake calipers are finished in gold (in the TR they are painted red). A tS badge adorns the trunk and the special edition rides on 19-inch wheels painted in satin gray. These are accompanied by Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires in sizes 245/35 R19 on both axles.

Behind closed doors an important change does appear with respect to the aforementioned TR and it is none other than the presence of a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, which replaces traditional analog indicators. This means the driver can now view a map and route guidance without needing to look at the main screen, which is the larger 11.6-inch unit standard on all but the base WRX.

The Recaro seats Black faux suede trim with eight-way power adjustments sit up front, and blue accents extend throughout the cabin, including on the seat bolsters, steering wheel, door panels and shift knob. The start button sports an STI logo, while “WRX tS” is emblazoned on the front seat headrests and floor mats. Additionally, Subaru also removed the sunroof to save weight and provide additional space for drivers wearing helmets.

Turbo engine and tuned chassis

In the mechanical section the main novelty is the new electronically controlled shock absorbers, which have three different settings: Comfort, Normal and Sport. Previously, this setup was only offered on the WRX GT automatic, but the tS has the advantage of combining this suspension with the six-speed manual gearbox. The tS also gets a high-performance Brembo braking system, made up of six-piston front calipers (the rear are two-piston), as well as larger discs and upgraded pads. The Japanese firm promises improved stopping power, more pedal feel and better fade resistance.

The 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood is unchanged from the TR, which means a total power of 275 horsepower and 350 Nm of maximum torque, sent to all four wheels through the brand’s usual all-wheel drive system. The 2025 Subaru WRX tS will arrive in US dealerships early next year. Here, we will have to settle for the new generation of the Impreza…
