Huawei has surpassed Samsung and is now the third largest manufacturer in the world when it comes to wearables

The wearables market has started 2024 with special strength. Global shipments, according to IDC data, increased by 8.8% to reach 113.1 million units. There is quite interesting data in this regard, beyond the increase in shipments.

The average sales price is falling. It’s not that we have more money in our pockets, it’s that the average price has fallen for the fifth consecutive quarter. In this first quarter of 2024, the price has been 11% lower than last year.

This is mainly due to the units sold in emerging countries, which correspond to economic models from companies such as Xiaomi and Huawei. Both sell at a price noticeably lower than Apple and Google, managing to increase shipments by reducing the average sales price.

Apple is still the king. Apple remains the undisputed king in the smartwatch market. In the first quarter of 2024 it fell significantly compared to last year. Specifically, it now has a 18.2% market share, compared to the 24.5% it obtained in the last period. Despite this, Apple Watch shipments decreased 19.1% year-on-year, a significant drop in its reference wearable.

On the Xiaomi side, it took second place, with a year-on-year growth of 43.4%. Its market share goes from 7.9% to 10.5%, excellent news that places the Chinese manufacturer in a great position in the table.

Huawei, once again surpassing Samsung. Neither Apple in first place nor Xiaomi in second, the most curious fact in the new table has to do with Huawei. The Chinese manufacturer has already overtaken Samsung in sales of foldable phones, and now it is also doing so in wearables.

Huawei moved to third place, thanks mainly to the Chinese market. This represents about 75% of the manufacturer’s total sales, and it is stronger than ever there.

Landing the figures, Huawei has gone from 6.2% market share to 9.6%, surpassing Samsung by 0.3%. It remains to be seen if the general picture moves after the launch of the new Galaxy Watch this summer, although Huawei’s growth in its native country will not make things easier for it.
