Madrid, June 10 (EFECOM).- Vodafone Spain celebrates five years this month since the launch of the first commercial 5G network in the country, in which it has invested 2,308 million euros, the company reported this Monday.

The telecommunications company explained in a statement that the coverage of its 5G network will reach, by the end of this year, 82% of the population in 2,700 municipalities and will exceed “the committed deployment obligations.”

Currently, more than two million Vodafone customers have unlimited data service with the 5G network and it is projected that this technology will be deployed in the future in 147 towns with less than 1,000 inhabitants and in 553 between 1,000 and 5,000 inhabitants to reduce the rural gap, the operator added.

“It has been shown that increases in the level of digitalization automatically translate into increases in productivity and GDP,” commented the company’s Director of Technology and Operations in Spain, Julia Velasco.

According to Vodafone, the 5G network “multiplies the speed of the 4G network by 10”, which has motivated more than 2,000 SMEs to have contracted its broadband service. EFECOM
