Rome, June 10 (EFECOM).- Italian industrial production in April fell 1% compared to March and marks the second consecutive drop in this indicator, according to data from the Italian National Statistics Institute (Istat).

Between February and April, the drop was 1.3% compared to the previous quarter, a downward trend that characterizes all sectors, Istat explained in a statement.

The decrease in the general production index was 2.9% and is due to “calendar effects”, since in 2024, there were 20 working days compared to 18 in April 2023.

“In April, for the second consecutive month, a cyclical decrease in the seasonally adjusted industrial production index was recorded. The general economic trend on average over the last three months is also decreasing,” the entity noted in its comment.

The largest declines in production were recorded by the textile, clothing, leather and accessories industry (13.3%), the manufacture of means of transportation (9.3%) and the manufacture of refined petroleum products (8.1%). %).

The fall is “less pronounced” in the case of intermediate goods (2.1%), while it is more significant in capital goods (3.1%), energy (3.6%) and manufacturing goods. consumption (3.9%).
