XM, operator of the National Interconnected System (SIN) and administrator of the Wholesale Energy Market (MEM), reported how the country fared in energy terms during May.

Without a doubt, the data that stands out the most is that related to the reservoirs that “closed their capacity with 43.69%, presenting a recovery of 10.78% compared to the end of April and the contributions stood at 97.91%. of the historical average, a value close to the historical average and consistent with the weakening of the El Niño phenomenon that has occurred in the country since May 2023,” explains Juan Carlos Morales, manager of the XM National Dispatch Center.

This is how the main energy variables of the Colombian electrical system fared as of May 31, 2024:

The water contributions to the plants were located at 97.91% of the historical average, which allowed the aggregate level of the System’s reservoir to be 43.69% of the useful volume, 10.78 points above the level reported at the close of April 2024 (32.91%), although 21.73 points below the level reported at the end of May 2023 (65.43%).

The reservoirs of Antioquia reached 37.95% of their useful volume and represent around 31.36% of the system’s reserves, followed by:

  • Caldas with 50.3% and 1.55% participation.
  • Caribbean with 70.22% and 1.5% participation.
  • East with 39.85% and 18.63% participation.
  • Center with 48.87% and 41.01% participation.
  • Valle with 57.46% and 5.95% participation in the system’s reserves.
