Meta decides to pause the training of its Artificial Intelligence on Facebook and Instagram in Europe

Goal has decided to completely paralyze the training of its Artificial Intelligence in the applications of Facebook and instagram in Europe. She has communicated this through a brief note to the DPC, the Irish data protection authority.

Last week, a Vienna-based privacy advocacy group filed complaints in 11 European countries against Meta, alleging that the planned change to the global tech giant’s privacy policy would allow the “illegal” use of personal data to train a “undefined” type of current and future artificial intelligence technology.

The complaints filed by the European Center for Digital Rights -also know as Noyb (“None of Your Business”) – followed a recent Meta announcement in which it informed its European users of a change in your privacy policy as of June 26.

The group said it discovered that Meta planned to use all public and non-public user data it has collected since 2007 for AI technology.

Through the complaints, the group asked the data protection authorities of 11 European countries to stop Meta’s new privacy policy before it came into effect at the end of June and to investigate it thoroughly.

“We welcome this development, but we will monitor it closely. So far there has been no official change to Meta’s privacy policy, which would make this commitment legally binding,” the founder of Noyb said in a statement. Max Schrems.

“The cases we present are ongoing and will need determination,” he added. Noyb has launched several legal cases against tech giants, often prompting action from regulatory authorities.

The group began working in 2018 with the arrival of the historic EU General Data Protection Regulation.
