Volkswagen has seen electric mobility as a whole business with possible forms of income. Although vehicles are the spearhead of the strategy, they are not the entire sustainable bet of the Germans. Recharging is another key point that deserves as much attention or more. Otovo joins the list of Volkswagen partners. A company focused on making domestic charging cheaper and more efficient by selling a total package of services, from the point to the installation, through rates and photovoltaic panels. Volkswagen customers can now take advantage of this.

Elli is the resulting company and will begin operating in 28 European markets starting this summer. The Elli Charger 2 will be available in four different versions and will take advantage of all its resources to reduce your electricity bill by up to 40%. To do this, it will take advantage of the latest efficient charging technology, taking advantage of moments with the cheapest rates, and also It will optimize its charge based on the energy production generated through the house’s solar panels. The Volkswagen Group wants to offer a unique and closed energy ecosystem, from the electric vehicle to the Otovo photovoltaic system.

The Elli 2 point is designed to make the most of the home’s electrical installation.

Volkswagen offers a total charging package

In addition to reducing charging costs, charging speed is a crucial purchasing factor for electric car users. The new product has been equipped with a wide range of services to accommodate regional differences in home energy configurations. The Elli Charger 2 will be available starting this summer in four different versions and will be able to charge any electric vehicle with a type 2 charging port. Thanks to new metering functions, the associated cost transparency and dynamic charging management, the new Elli Charger 2 can not only be used in private homes, but also in commercial environments.

As a first step, European customers of the Volkswagen Group can also purchase a photovoltaic system when purchasing the Elli Charger 2 point, and Otovo will be in charge of installing it at home or wherever requested. The German charging infrastructure provider has explained that the Wallbox and the solar storage system are coordinated in such a way that consumers can charge their car directly with excess photovoltaic energy and save on charging costs. The vehicle can be charged at night with cheap electricity from the grid, while solar energy stored in the house battery can be conserved for the next morning.

If the electric car is charged with surplus photovoltaic electricity, it is said that the financial advantage can reduce the cost of charging by up to 40%. If, in the second case described, the electric car is charged with electricity at night to increase photovoltaic self-consumption in the home, or if the electric car is not connected to the wall box of the home photovoltaic system during the day, the potential savings depends of the contracted electricity rate. In addition to the clear economic savings, surplus photovoltaic recharging also offers ecological benefits. Technically, this is one-way AC charging, current only flows from the charging station to the car. At the moment the Volkswagen Group has not specified how the commercial range of the new Elli points will be formed.
