Berlin, June 17 (EFECOM).- The largest German union, IG Metall, has asked this Monday for a 7% salary increase for the 3.9 million employees in the electrical and metallurgical industry due to “the level of constantly high prices.” “.

The management of IG Metall has made this salary increase proposal for the next twelve months to the regional agreement negotiation commissions after polling the opinion of 318,000 employees, as explained in a statement.

For training contracts it demands an increase of 170 extra euros, while for the lowest salary groups it requests a “social component” that eliminates part of the pressure to which they are subjected.

The head of agreements at IG Metall, Nadine Boguslawski, has argued the salary demands in which companies currently have “a comfortable cushion of orders”, while, despite the drop in inflation, prices remain high for the consumers.

“The one-time payments (to compensate for inflation) from the employers’ association according to the last agreement have been eaten up by inflation. Employees deserve a lasting monthly adjustment and recognition of their work,” he claimed.

The president of IG Metall, Christiane Benner, referred to the “volatile situation” of some isolated companies, which she said should not raise doubts about the solidity of the sector as a whole.

“The situation of some isolated companies should not make all employees in the sector suffer,” he declared and recalled that “industrial policy is the task of the Government” and it must be in charge of guaranteeing employment and the future of Germany as a location. industrial.

The agreements in force in the sector expire at the end of next September and the next round of negotiation is scheduled for the middle of that month. EFECOM
