After prototypes being seen rolling around the Nürburgring on several occasions, Chevrolet announced that the new Corvette ZR1 will be presented on July 25. It is said that it will be the most powerful launched to date, ensuring that it will have performance never before seen in a Corvette, or “unthinkable”, as they have described it in the teaser videos.
The last of these reveals little more than the date, although we can also hear it accelerating as it moves through a few gears. The powertrain in question is rumored to be a twin-turbo version of the 5.5-liter V8 found in the Z06.
The Z06’s naturally aspirated V8 already produces 670 horsepower. Adding a pair of turbos to the mix should allow the engine to reach the speculated 850 Hp figure. This will likely be sent to the rear wheels through the same 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission in all C8-generation Corvettes.
Aesthetically, the ZR1 prototypes feature a wide-body design similar to the Z06, but with new parts intended to further increase downforce. These include a new hood vent and a huge rear spoiler. A secondary side entry is also added to each of the rear fenders.
