Wind power is one of the main sources of renewable energy in Spain, thanks to its favorable geography and abundant winds. In fact, large wind turbine parks can be found throughout the country, especially in Castilla y León, Galicia and Andalusia. Some mills that have evolved over time, and you can find some made of wood or others with vertical propellers and a modular and silent design. However, a new and ingenious invention aims to put an end to them: can produce energy from wind anywhere.

Vind Panel, a startup Polish company, has invented an innovative ‘wind fence’ that is capable of producing energy anywhere. A system, called ‘Wiatrowy Panel’, which is focused on “domestic wind energy” and which its creators define on their website as a “cutting-edge modular mechanism designed to take advantage of low speed wind to generate sustainable electricity day and night, all year round.

Specifically, it is an invention that combines the onshore wind turbine technology with “first fenced wind panel”. It should be noted that wind panels are a system of wind turbines that efficiently produce electricity from low-speed winds and whose design means that they have no impact on human health, the landscape and the environment. This new solution has even already been recognized with an award by the ING Polska bank, which highlights its potential to transform renewable energy generation.

An efficient panel

The Polish company currently offers two different colors for its Panel Wiatrowy wind panel, one in black and the other in gray. A device that looks like a fence with small wind turbines and is available in various heights, specifically one, two and four meters; and whose length can be adapted to the specific needs of each user, allowing its installation in a variety of contexts. For example, it can be placed on private properties, such as a freestanding structure or as a garden wall and patios of a house.

Can also be installed on office building roofs, multi-story residential, warehouses and production plants; or as fencing in industrial areas, parking lots, bridges and viaducts. As detailed by the Polish company, its system is even suitable for placing in airports, including fencing along landing strips, or along highways, roads and railway lines. One of the main characteristics of Panel Wiatrowy is that it can be used as a complement to solar installations, such as a fence on farms.

Regarding its operation, this system “is designed to generate electrical energy efficiently even when wind speed is low; providing a reliable source of energy in a variety of climatic conditions”, they explain from Vind Panel. A technology that is built sustainably and mainly with recycled materials, using a high percentage of reused components “to promote environmental sustainability and reduce waste “.

It should be noted that this technology has been designed to maintain its structural integrity and safety, “even under the pressure of strong winds”, ensuring that it always remains safe and reliable during adverse weather conditions. The Polish company repeatedly highlights that its wind panel is particularly efficient in generating energy from low speed winds, which are really common in Europe.

In particular, they explain that if it is placed as a fence in a house or an installation of 1,000 square meters is made on the roof of a building can generate approximately 40 kW. In the case of incorporating it in an industrial area of one hectare, it can produce around 400 kW and in a fence segment of 10 linear meters it is capable of generating 1 kW; while if it is 1,000 linear meters it increases to 100 kW.

If installed as fences on both sides of a 1 kilometer highway, this ‘wind fence’ can generate 200 kW. The creators of Panel Wiatrowy also highlight another interesting feature of their technology: can be effectively complemented with photovoltaic installations to allow diversification of energy production from renewable sources. And both installations can be connected to an inverter, occupy a different space and do not interfere with each other.

The interesting thing in this situation is that a wind panel is a vertical installation and the solar panels are horizontal. This means that the disadvantages of photovoltaic energy are taken advantage of with the advantages of the wind panel, such as the latter’s ability to produce electrical energy at night and on cloudy days; where solar cells are less efficient. A really useful feature in winter, when the vegetation is less dense and the movement of air masses easier, allowing a house to be effectively heated with electricity.

Other advantages of the system

Vind Panel also notes that its invention offers a wide variety of sustainability benefits. The first of them, and the most significant, is its aesthetic design, which does not negatively affect the landscape or human health. Therefore, it is suitable for placement in urban and rural areas without compromising the quality of life or the natural environment. On the other hand, the startup explains that the versatility of wind panels contributes to the decentralization of the electrical grid.

This allows energy to be generated at distributed points and, in turn, reduces dependence on large power plants and increases the resilience of energy infrastructure. This technology, by facilitating the distributed generation of clean energy, also contributes significantly to the reduction of smog – a fusion between “smoke” and “fog” – and other atmospheric pollutants in urban environments. And this is crucial for combat health problems associated with poor air quality.

Therefore, the wind panel developed by the startup Pole runs as an innovative and efficient solution for the generation of renewable energy capable of integrating into various environments and complementing other forms of renewable energy. A system that to a certain extent is reminiscent of the wind turbine house wall designed by the American designer Joe Doucet at the end of 2021. A technology that, instead of having an enormous size and three blades, had the shape of a house wall made up of small wind turbines that generate electricity.
