What is the new car with four engines from the most exclusive brand in the world like?

There are super luxurious brands like Rolls-Royce or Maybach. And others about supercars like Ferrari. But there is only one that combines the best of both worlds: Bugattithe manufacturer of the most exclusive cars on the planet, which has just presented its new model, the Tourbillon.

It is the first electrified vehicle from the French company and the first to be born after Rimac, the Croatian manufacturer that produces the fastest electric car on the planet, took the reins of the traditional brand founded by Ettore Bugatti 115 years ago.

The Tourbillon is a hypercar that aesthetically follows the lines established by the Chiron, the model it replaces, but that mechanically it changes everything. In fact, it is the first Bugatti in 20 years that does not have the iconic 16-cylinder engine arranged in W.

To replace it, a new block of 16 cylinders in V which, in turn, is assisted by three other electric motors. The complete set develops 1,800 horsepower and its battery pack, rechargeable through an electrical network, gives it a range of up to 60 kilometers without using a drop of fuel.

Bugatti announced that it will only manufacture 250 units of this model, although special editions or versions based on this coupe will surely appear, and its price is 3.6 million euros. Despite the astronomical figure, the suspicion is that the entire production has already been sold, as is the case with these super cars.

Swiss watchmaking precision

Its mechanism, made up of 600 parts, imitates the operation and precision of Swiss watchmaking.

“If it is comparable, it is no longer Bugatti.” This was one of Ettore Bugatti’s mantras. And the history of the company was built with that premise. The new Tourbillon takes that idea to its maximum expression.

As with all Bugatti of the modern era, the Tourbillon is “molded by speed”, according to the brand. The ability to travel at over 400 km/h requires that every surface, air intake or edge be finely polished to ensure that it is not only aerodynamic but also beneficial to the thermodynamics of the car.

This is the guiding principle of the Tourbillon, which then evolves around four historically inspired Bugatti design elements: the horseshoe grille, the Bugatti Line, the central crest and the two-color division.

The Bugatti Tourbillon reinterprets the traditional horseshoe-shaped grille.

According to Frank Heyl, Bugatti’s design director, “we based it on the Bugatti Type 35, where the entire shape of the car was guided by the shape of the horseshoe grille, tapering back into this aerodynamic body shape.”

Unlike what happens with many sports cars, which deploy mobile spoilers when they gain a certain speed, the rear spoiler of the Tourbillon remains submerged even during stretches at maximum speedwith a perfect balance of forces generated by these new innovations acquired in more than 20 years of experience with models such as the Veyron or the Chiron.

That wing is only used to establish greater downforce at slower speeds and as an air brake to improve stability when decelerating.

Inside is probably the most striking part of the Tourbillon and part of what gives it its name. It’s about a dashboard built with logic from the world of watchmaking.

To achieve high speeds, the Bugatti Tourbillon’s retractable spoiler remains hidden.

Tourbillon is a specific mechanism used in high-end watches to eliminate timekeeping inconsistencies caused by gravity. In this way, the precision of the clock mechanism is increased.

In the Bugatti model, an instrument panel was designed consisting of more than 600 pieces and built with titanium and precious stones such as sapphire and ruby. The stated precision is tremendous: it is built with the largest tolerance of 50 microns, the smallest of 5 microns and weighs only 700 grams.

This intricately designed masterpiece is located just above the center of the steering wheel, which remains stationary while the steering wheel rim rotates around it.

The center of the Bugatti Tourbillon’s steering wheel remains fixed, along with the instrument panel.

The center console is a glass and aluminum mix, which reveals the intricate workings of the switches and the engine start lever it houses. This glass was developed in 13 different stages to ensure that it was perfectly transparent and extremely resistant and safe in the event of an accident. The aluminum console parts are anodized and milled from a single block of metal.

But hidden from view is a high-definition digital screen, which shows vehicle data and functions as a multimedia center. A mechanism deploys the touchscreen from the top of the center console; It emerges in portrait mode and then rotates to a landscape position.

Relieving the weight of a sports car is key to its performance. But a Bugatti is, at the same time, a super luxury car that cannot do without comfort elements. But the brand has found some ingenious solutions to reduce weight.

The Bugatti Tourbillon has a hidden screen that acts as a multimedia center.

The seats, for example, are fixed to the floor to make them as light and low as possible, and it is the pedal board that can be electrically adjusted fore and aft to ensure a comfortable driving position for everyone.

Additionally, the audio system is designing without speakers or woofers traditionalopting for an advanced system that features exciters in the door panels and throughout the car to use existing interior panels as speakers.

A high performance hybrid

Bugatti left aside the era of its W16 engine with four turbos and a power of 1,500 horsepower. The Tourbillon is powered by a new 8.3-litre naturally aspirated V16 engine, designed with the help of Cosworth, combined with a front electric axle with two electric motors and a third electric motor mounted on the rear axle. In total, the set produces 1,800 HP, 1,000 of which comes from the combustion engine and 800 HP from the electric motors.

The shapes of the Bugatti Tourbillon play a transcendental role in the aerodynamics of the model.

This design ends up giving it four-wheel drive. The gearbox is dual clutch with 8 speeds. The electric motors work with an 800 V battery, capacity of 25 kWh, which is housed in the central tunnel and integrated into the carbon monocoque to reduce weight. It allows an electric range of up to 60 kilometers when fully charged.

The suspension was redesigned compared to the Chiron and now has 3D printed parts for greater efficiency. The Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2 tires, measuring 285/35 R20 at the front and 345/30 R21 at the rear, are a tailor-made development for the Tourbillon.

With such power, the numbers of the new Bugatti model are scary. Reach the 445 km/h maximum speed and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds. To reach 200 km/h from 0, it takes less than 5 seconds; at 300 km/h, 10 seconds; and to 400 km/h, in less than 25 seconds.

The acceleration power of the Bugatti Tourbillon is scary.

The rear wing of the Bugatti Tourbillon deploys for more downforce and to assist in braking.

The dashboard of the Bugatti Tourbillon is a 600-piece piece of clockwork.

The seat of the Bugatti Tourbillon is fixed to the floor and what can be adjusted are the distances of the steering wheel and the pedal board.
