When does the new compact pick-up arrive?

Volkswagen revealed that it will finally add to its product portfolio a new compact van known until now under the name Tarok, and that it will be manufactured in Brazil.

VW’s new compact pick-up will be produced at the São José dos Pinhais plant, Brazil.

Production of this model will take place at the São José dos Pinhais industrial complex, in the state of Paraná (Brazil), in the same plant where the small SUV (sports utility vehicle) T-Cross is manufactured and where, from 2025, the B-segment sedan, the Virtus, will be produced.

It will compete against Fiat Toro and Ford Maverick, among others.

The new Tarok is a compact pickup truck that will be positioned below the Amarok, the medium-sized pickup truck manufactured in Pacheco, province of Buenos Aires. The project will be based on the MQB platform already used by the Virtus and T-Cross, the models that will be concentrated in a single industrial complex.

The Tarok was first revealed in prototype form at the 2018 Sao Paulo Motor Show.

This platform would allow the vehicle to benefit from attributes such as a good balance between comfort and dynamics and a stable structure in the event of impacts.

The new Volkswagen truck will put up a direct battle with the Fiat Toro, Renault Oroch, Ford Maverick, the renewed Chevrolet Montana and the recently launched Ram Rampage.

The mechanics of the VW compact van could be the new 1.5 TSI Evo2 gasoline engine (with four cylinders and turbo).

Compared to the Volkswagen Saveiro, the brand’s small pick-up, the Tarok will be positioned one step above it. This way, Volkswagen will remain one of the few brands with pickup truck models in different segments.

The mechanics of the VW compact van could have the new 1.5 TSI Evo2 gasoline engine (with four cylinders and turbo). It would be the one to take the place of the current 1.4 TSI and would have the same power and torque: 150 hp and 250 Nm. There is also speculation that it offers a hybrid engine.
