Tokyo, Jun 28 (.).- Japan’s industrial output grew 2.8 percent in May compared with the previous month, the Japanese government said Friday.

Last April, industrial production had fallen by 0.1%, while in March the indicator grew by 3.8%.

In this context, the Japanese Government considers that national industrial production “fluctuates indecisively, but has weakened” in general terms, according to the report published this Friday by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Japan’s industrial output rose 0.3% in May compared with the same month last year, according to the data.

The industries that contributed the most to the expansion of industrial production in Japan in May 2024 were motor vehicles, electrical machinery and information and communication equipment, and general business machinery.

On the other hand, those that shrank the most were production machinery and chemistry.

In turn, data from a survey carried out monthly by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japanese companies indicates that Japanese industrial production should contract by 4.8% this June and grow by 3.6% in July.

Industrial production measures the pace of Japanese factories and is considered a key indicator to anticipate the progress of the Asian country’s economy, highly dependent on the manufacturing sector.
