On the occasion of World Aphasia Day, Samsung is expanding the coverage of this app to all models compatible with WearOS.

During the celebration of the V Aphasia Day – organized by the Active Aphasia Association – the benefits of using Impulse will be made known to patients, family members and specialists related to speech pathologies.

Samsung Electronics Iberia has announced that Impulse, its application that uses Artificial Intelligence to improve the daily lives of people with speech disorders, such as stuttering, can now be used from any smart watch compatible with the app. This announcement comes coinciding with the celebration of World Aphasia Day, June 28, and the 5th Aphasia Day and the 1st Aphasia Fair, which will take place on the 29th of this month in Madrid. During the events organised by the Asociación Afasia Activa, the functionalities and advantages of using Impulse will be presented to patients, family members and specialists related to speech pathologies.

The app, which works with an algorithm based on Natural Language Processing, analyses and transforms words into rhythmic vibrations. This generates a sensory pattern that acts as an invisible and silent assistant on the user’s wrist. The smartwatch tells the user the tempo of each phoneme or word, according to the particularities of the patient’s disorder. Through this physical support through vibration, the user knows his or her own speech rhythm, which allows him or her to avoid blocks in diction and facilitate fluidity in speech.

Impulse – which can also be used on Android phones – is developed in collaboration with the Speechcare & Stuttering Center to improve speaking fluency through rhythmic support on the wrist and endorsed by the Association of Speech Therapists of Spain and A Sociedade Portuguesa de Terapia da Fala (SPTF) in Portugal, has more than 250 rhythm and tone exercises that increase in difficulty as the user progresses in speech control.

More than 1% of the world population (around 70 million people) suffer This type of difficulty is characterized by generating interruptions in speech, such as repetitions or prolongations of sounds, syllables or words.

Impulse is part of the Technology with Purpose program, a local initiative by Samsung Iberia, with more than 12 years of experience, which has benefited more than half a million people in Spain. With an investment of more than 25 million euros through 30 projects, the objective of this local initiative is to improve people’s lives by breaking down barriers through technology, through the four areas that the program works on: education, culture, employability and entrepreneurship, accessibility and well-being.
