Starting next July 1, Banco AV Villas will have Gerardo Alfredo Hernández as its new president. The change in management occurs after the resignation of Juan Camilo Ángel, who had been in this banking entity for 30 years and 18 as its president.

After completing the necessary procedures before the Colombian Financial Superintendence for his possession, Hernández will take the reins of another of the Aval Group’s banks and He will leave his position as legal vice president of Banco de Bogotá, a position he held since 2021.

Who is the new president of Av Villas bank?

Hernández was appointed as president by the Board of Directors. He is a lawyer from the University of the Andes, specializing in Administrative Law from the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario.

In addition to his position at Banco de Bogotá, he has served, among others, as advisor to the executive director for Colombia and Peru at the IDB, and was also deputy minister of Labor and Social Security, executive manager and secretary of the board of directors of Banco de la República, financial superintendent and co-director of the Board of Directors of Banco de la República.

He completed postgraduate studies in economics at the New School for Social Research in New York and Studies on central banking at the International Monetary Fund.

Gerardo Hernández took over as co-director of the Bank of the Republic in 2017.

On March 15, 2017, he was sworn in as a member of the Board of Directors of Banco de la República before the then president, Juan Manuel Santos, who highlighted his academic training and professional career.

At the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, Hernández was general administrative director, deputy director of Internal Public Credit, advisor to the Vice Minister of Finance and lawyer of the Legal Department of the General Directorate of Public Credit.

In fact, he spent 16 years in various positions within the issuing bank and for six years he was Financial Superintendent of Colombia.

He has participated as a member of the Colombian Negotiating Group and the Legal Group of the Trade Agreement with Mexico and Venezuela (G3), he was also part of the Colombian delegation negotiating several bilateral investment agreements, and the Colombian delegation negotiating the Free Trade Agreement with the United States in the investment and financial services chapters.

He has also been a teacher on central banking and exchange legislation at the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario and at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá.
