Confirmed: Nissan will have its own compact pickup based on the Renault Niagara and it would be manufactured in Córdoba

MMore than an open secret, it was already an official preview: at the beginning of the year, Nissan presented its plan The Arc in which, among all its projects, a new compact pick-up stood out for our region but of which no details were given. more details. Finally, this week, Guy Rodriguez, President of Nissan LATAM confirmed the project to a group of journalists in Brazil.

In addition to highlighting the success the company is having with the Kicks and the upcoming arrival of its new generation, the compact pickup is especially important as it represents the Japanese firm’s landing in this new and competitive segment and also good news for our country: although the investment announcement is still pending, it is almost a fact that it will be produced at the Santa Isabel plant in Córdoba together with the successor to the Renault Oroch, a project that the diamond brand did confirm for Argentina.

As the Japanese firm announced in its The Arc plan, it plans to launch no less than 30 new products in the next three years at a global level, dividing the markets into regions. For South America, although official information is scarce, as we pointed out previously, there is one project that stands out and that is precisely its compact pick-up, which will be created by Renault. The company, through the Renault-Nissan alliance, had already anticipated a few years ago that it was going to follow a strategy of following the leader, that is, that they would share many platforms and components and, based on one vehicle, develop another/others for each brand. As an example, based on the Nissan Frontier, there will be derivatives from Renault (Alaskan) and Mitsubishi (L200). That is what will happen with the compact pick-up, which will be an alternative to the successor of the Oroch.

The Renault Niagara, which was presented as a concept last year, anticipates a pickup truck with hybrid mechanics that will replace the current Oroch. This product will debut the RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform) platform in our country and is the same one that debuted in the Kardian, in turn, derived from the CMF-B architecture. Being more modern than the B0 platform of the Duster/Oroch, it is suitable for all types of propulsion systems, whether with internal combustion engines and/or hybrid electrification systems and allows the incorporation of advanced driving assistance systems.

Renault Niagara ConceptWe will have to wait a little longer for its presentation, since it is expected to be unveiled between 2025 and 2026. At the moment there is only a sketch of Renault, although investment announcements and more details may possibly arrive in the coming months.
