Senator Isabel Zuleta published a new video inviting Gustavo Petro to be re-elected

Senator Isabel Zuleta, from the Historic Pact, reiterated her support for the reelection of President Gustavo Petro on Friday, June 28, despite the fact that this figure is prohibited by the Constitution.

“We invite all Colombians, and especially our farmers, to work for the reelection of Gustavo Petro,” Zuleta said in a message on his X (Twitter) account in which he shared a video in which he appears with two farmers.

Last May, Zuleta caused controversy by expressing his support for Petro’s reelection. According to the parliamentarian, it is a “citizen feeling” and that the approach does not come from the Colombian president.

“This is my opinion, it is the opinion I have gathered from various members of this political project. I saw the demonstration in the streets, I participated in the May Day demonstrations. In the streets I found banners with this slogan for the re-election of President Gustavo Petro. “Especially because he has not been allowed to govern,” The senator said in an interview with WEEK.

He also said that it is not a proposal that has sparked previous meetings or that there is a group of congressmen united around the cause.

“It is a citizen sentiment that I gather and I also agree with that sentiment. It is true that the president has said no to us; we, who are thinking about this proposal, hope, in these two years remaining in the mandate, to be able to convince him of the need to continue this political project,” he added.

He also said that he has not spoken with any member of the Historical Pact about the possibility of the president being re-elected.

“We need to sit down and discuss it, to shape it. At this moment we have not done that, it is a personal opinion. I could not tell you who is in favor and who is against the Pact,” express.

Faced with the possible procedures to modify the Constitution, the senator assured that they are “in good time” to give way to a re-election.
