Sungrow Hydrogen company has been awarded the contract world’s largest project to integrate the production of green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol. A huge project that will, of course, be in China.

More specifically, it is a project of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) for the Songyuan Hydrogen Power Industrial Park, in Jilin (China).

The Songyuan Hydrogen Power Industrial Park project is part of the first batch of “Low-Carbon and Advanced Green Technology Demonstration Projects”, promoted by the National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC), which is the country’s top economic planning body.

With a investment of more than 4 billion dollars (about 3.7 billion euros at the current exchange rate), it is expected that this ambitious project produce 110,000 tons of green hydrogen, 600,000 tons of green ammonia and 60,000 tons of green methanol annually once it comes into operation.

This super electrolyzer can produce 4,000 m³ of hydrogen per hour.

To do this, Sungrow Hydrogen will use its 1000 Nm³/h ALK four-in-one production system. What does all this mean? Let’s take it one step at a time. The letters ALK They refer to the alkaline electrolysiswhich is a method of producing hydrogen by separating water (H₂O) into hydrogen (H₂) and oxygen (O₂) using an electric current and an alkaline electrolyte solution, commonly potassium hydroxide (KOH) or sodium hydroxide (NaOH) .

The number indicated is the hydrogen production capacity of the system, measured in normal cubic meters per hour (Nm³/h). Normal cubic meters (Nm³) refer to the volume of gas under normal conditions of temperature and pressure, which are generally 0°C (273.15 K) and 1 atmosphere of pressure. Thus, this system can produce 1,000 cubic meters of hydrogen per hour under these standard conditions. But there is also a ‘×4’, which means that it has four production units or modules. Therefore, this system can produce a total of 4,000 cubic meters of hydrogen per hour.

The Songyuan Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park project is not only significant for its size, but also for its role in the strategy of the Chinese province of Jilin, which seeks to position itself as a leader in the production and use of green hydrogen globally. To achieve this, Chinese public administrations are contributing large amounts of money.

This superelectrolyzer This is the third tender won by Sungrow Hydrogen in Jilin Province. In the future, the company plans to implement this system in more projects globally, not just in China, to pave the way for large-scale production of green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol.
