There are different ways in which a memory lodges in the sometimes treacherous hotel of memory. It can be the comedy of the matter, the shame of a scene or the tragic touch tattooed on the face, among others, that cause a story to never be forgotten. Other times it is an accumulation of all of them together. Example of this is Maria Leonwho was asked in Martinez and Brothers for a moment ‘Earth swallow me’ and all that came to mind was one anecdote that can be summarized in a picture: the actress naked from the waist up in the heart of Madrid.
That happened, the interpreter recalls, after an interview with who turned out to be her first representative. She was very young and enjoyed the caresses that the world of acting gave her. “I had just come out of a casting and I was wearing a pink bra that my brother Paco gave me”begins his story, directing an apparently innocent event towards ridicule.
“The lady started screaming.”
“I thought it was my lucky bra and it tied with two clip buttons in the back”, he says, making everyone present begin to deduce where the shots were going. She, she says, couldn’t be happier: “I was walking down Gran Vía, walking as if it were a video clip.” He had to walk around with the movements that one makes when he feels that a camera is recording him until, suddenly, he found a woman.
“I saw that he dropped something and, without thinking, I picked it up and gave it to him.”, he explains, recreating the movement he made to hand her what the Sevillian picked up from the ground. She leaned forward. And she got up: “When I gave it to him, I realized that he was naked on the Gran Vía in Madrid.”
What had happened had a simple explanation. “I looked down and the top was on the floor and the lady started yelling that it was in a hidden camera.”, he details, causing the laughter and screams on set to increase in volume exponentially. She stood still, almost paralyzed. “A girl who passed by buttoned my top and I didn’t know whether to apologize or cry on the floor”sentence.
He decided to keep this story in María León’s mind for Two reasons. The first, because of the shame that tied the bones and muscles of the actress; the second, because she moved jubilantly through the Madrid street without knowing that she, in reality, was beginning to fulfill her dream: she managed to pass the interview.
