The murder of Asunta Basterra Porto, only 12 years old, shocked all of Spain in 2013 due to its crudeness and the way in which the entire story unfolded around it. Now it is back on everyone’s lips thanks to the series created by Netflix and starring Candela Pena and Tristán Ulloa, who, mixing reality and fiction, tells everything that happened.

Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra were both convicted of the murder of their adopted daughter and the judge imposed a sentence of 18 years in prison on each of them. The father continues to serve his sentence in Teixero prison, while the mother appeared hanged on November 18, 2020 in the cell he was in at the Brieva prison, Ávila, after having made several suicide attempts. This event opened a new plot to the main story, since Porto had in his possession an estate that amounted to three million euros.

In her possession, the woman had three houses: his habitual residence, in Teo, a few kilometers from Santiago de Compostela, and two more in the Galician capital, one of them inherited from their parents, whose death was also investigated, since they died suddenly shortly before their granddaughter, which led to the assumption that they had been murdered because of their inheritance and could be related to Asunta’s death. This ended up being denied by researchers.

Apart from the houses, Porto had a large number of jewelry, works of art and porcelain figurines; and approximately half a million euros in the bank. All this amounted to about three million euros. So, with his daughter dead and her ex-husband in jail, Who received this millionaire inheritance?

Rosario Porto wrote in his inheritance that was divided into two parts: One for her lawyers and another for her closest friend, María Teresa Sampedro known as ‘La Nena’. However, the lawyers decided to renounce their share, so the entire inheritance remained in the hands of her friend.

‘La Nena’ was one of Rosario’s best friends, who had known each other since they were children. The two were great confidants of the other, reaching the point that Teresa became the right hand of the lawyer. When her mother was arrested and could not attend the cremation of her daughter, ‘La Nena’ was in charge of collecting Asunta’s ashes from the funeral home.

Although the entire estate went to her friend, Rosario wanted to leave a last will that her heirs had to carry out. Part of the money obtained was to be used to donate three charitable causes. The amount was not specified, but it did have to be delivered to Amnesty International, SOS prisoners of Galicia and Human Rights Watch.

The Montouto farm was one of the houses that became part of ‘La Nena’s’ properties after the death of her friend. This was the house in which it took place the murder of the girl and that at the time Rosario wanted to get rid of it due to its dilapidated state.

Netflix premieres the miniseries ‘The Asunta Case’.

It is a 400 meter house on a 10,000 square meter plot, with swimming pool and tennis court in an enclosure surrounded by a huge stone wall that once belonged to Rosario’s parents and that she inherited after their death in 2012, a year before the crime.

The heiress also intended to sell it as soon as she had it in her possession, but obstacle after obstacle has been presented to her. Shortly after the investigation of the case was closed, they settled in the same squattersand that according to the verifications carried out by the newspaper ABC In 2023, they still live there. This has made the deterioration of the house unstoppable due to lack of maintenance, sprouting weeds and leaving it like a ruin. To all this we must add a fire who suffered and required the presence of firefighters.
