The Mortal Kombat movie sequel will be released in October 2025

Warner Bros. has announced the release date for Mortal Kombat.

We are referring, to clarify, to the sequel to the film released in 2021 based on the popular NetherRealm fighting game.

According to Variety, its arrival in movie theaters is scheduled for October 24, 2025. The North American media also confirms that there will also be screening in IMAX theaters.

Mortal Kombat 2 was confirmed in January 2022, after the success of the first installment (which raised $22.5 million in its first weekend in the United States, exceeding Warner’s forecasts), and will once again feature Simon McQuoid as director. The script, for its part, was written by Jeremy Slater (Fantastic 4, Moon Knight).

The sequel will have as great novelties the inclusion of Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban (The Boys, Dredd), and Kitana, who will be played by actress Adeline Rudolph (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).

About these characters McQuoid said in 2021 that Johnny Cage did not appear in the first film because it “unbalanced” things a little, since “he has a giant personality and almost his own gravitational field.” Of Kitana, at the same time, he assured that “they ask me almost as much about her as about Johnny Cage. There are a lot of interesting characters, history and material to work with.”

From the first part, the return of Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Josh Lawson (Kano), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Mehcad Brooks (Jax) and Ludi Lin (Liu Kang) is confirmed.
