Kevin Costner received a standing ovation last Sunday for his first film as a director in 11 years, Horizon: An American Sagain it Cannes Film Festival. The film, a four-part drama about the colonization of the American West during the Civil War, was very well received by the public, which made the actor emotional to the point of not being able to avoid shedding a couple of tears.
Costner, now 69, appeared moved as he addressed the audience. During his speech, the actor-director expressed his gratitude and stated that his experience at the French festival will forever be something he will carry in his memory.
“What good people. Such a good moment, not only for me, but for the actors who accompanied me, the people who believed in me… it is a fun business and I am very happy to have found it,” he said in front of the audience. “I will never forget it, and neither will my children.”added the Hollywood veteran.
Costner also reflected on cinema in general. “I think movies are not about their opening weekends. They are about your life and how many times you are willing to share it”, he expressed. “I really hope you share this film with your loves, with your children. I feel so lucky. “I feel so blessed,” he continued to applause.

This event was even more meaningful for Kevin due to the presence of his children, who accompanied him and were in the front row during the ovation. Costner attended the premiere with five of his seven children: Annie, 40; Cayden, 17; Grace, 13; Lily, 37; and Hayes, 15, who actually also makes his acting debut in the film.
The film will be released in two parts during the American summer, as reported by the network Warner Bros. Pictures. This project marks Costner’s return to film directing after 2003, when he directed Justice pact (Open Range), so it constitutes an important project for the actor, who was involved in the successful series Yellowstone since 2018.
Horizon: An American Saga explores the origins of the United States, chronicling the expansion and settlement in the American West before and after the Civil War (1861-1865). Across a divided country, the story presents the perspectives of families, friends and enemies as they search through the Old West. The story shows how the colonization of this region was forged with the blood, sweat and tears of many.
The film’s cast includes a wide range of notable actors such as Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Ella Hunt, among others. The film has been compared to Dance with wolves (Dances with Wolves) from 1990, a film that earned Costner two awards Oscar.
