Since José María Muscari lwas summoned to be the head of sexnext to Diego ramosthe life of Juliet Ortega underwent a resounding change. In the transgressive show that is presented at the Gorriti Art Center, the actress goes topless and even goes topless. Of course, it was not so easy for her to face it and in a conversation with the journalist Nico Peraltathe daughter of Palito Ortega and Evangelina Salazar He talked about everything.

Juliet Ortega

“For Sex, Muscari called me directly and he did it the same day I was finishing The Force of Affection. It has been a very tough year for the country in general, in all areas and sectors, and ours is no exception to that. The theater is going through a very big crisis. We had premiered in January, at the time of greatest uncertainty and already there I knew that The Force of Affection might not continue on the bill all year. It is clear that José had that same date, because he has another play at the Multiteatro and he took advantage of it and the same day he called me,” Julieta said.

-How was that talk given?

-Muscari told me that he was looking for the new protagonist of Sex and that he wanted it to be me. He didn’t surprise me because he had gone to see Sex twice while he was doing Lost Mind and the first time, when I came out, I told him: ‘José, I think the show is fabulous and I would even dare to do it.’ But at that time I was far from that because Romina was there and I was in another work. I was in Lost Mind for a year and a half and although I left, the play is still on. You can see that that stuck in his head and when he needed someone, he called me. I received it with great joy and great relief because beyond what I thought of the show and my desire to work, I was a little worried about the work situation. Mine and the actors in general.

Juliet Ortega

-You joined a show, Sex, that is super installed.

-Luckily it’s going well and since it’s not strictly a play, it generates more attraction. Sex is a genre in itself. It is an immersive show, in which the audience can move around the space and that makes Sex have an audience that never stops coming. I don’t know if there is a show right now that is doing three shows on Saturdays. So, it’s really a phenomenon. Being called to be part of that phenomenon, where I already knew in all these years how he was doing because I am a friend of José and he told me about it, was great.

-In your career, what you do is, for now, new.

-Yeah. The experience of doing it is very strong and takes me out of my comfort zone. I knew that this was going to be good for me because it takes me out of familiar territory. With Diego Ramos we are the hosts and at the same time we are mixed with others all the time. We are no strangers to the eroticism of the show. That meant a very big challenge for me. I’m still nervous before doing performances and I took it with a great sense of responsibility. And even with more tingles than premiering a conventional play could cause me.

Juliet Ortega

-Is it so different?

-Yes very. In a conventional play I know how everything is: there is a stage, there are two legs, people are not close, people talk in front, the fourth wall can be broken or not but you know it is there. It is a land that I have lived in for many years and where I feel most comfortable. They are waters in which I have swum for a long time. I have been working for more than 30 years. Not to mention the camera, it doesn’t make me nervous at all. Neither in the cinema nor on TV. And over the years I managed to achieve that neither. But this brought me to ground zero. I feel like a beginner.

-What a statement, Juliet.

-That’s what happens to me, really. At one point, I am a beginner in this type of show. It’s great to feel this because it keeps me alive. And Sex is pure energy. I met some spectacular colleagues. They are all extraordinary.

Julieta Ortega and Diego Ramos

-How were you received?

-Divine. Obviously, Sex is a plane that goes, goes and goes. You have to get on the ship and move forward. Every time someone joins, they can’t rehearse 20 people with the new person. Whoever joins, rehearses alone and then has a general pass on the day of the premiere or, with luck, the day before. It’s all like that. And then something magical happens on stage, where everyone hugs each other. Symbolically, right? The energy is so high that magic happens and you are like in the middle of a recital or a luxury cabaret. It’s all that. And at the same time it is nothing like that.

-And what is? How could you define it?

-Look, I have a text in the play that says: “Sex has text but it is not theater and it has humor but it is not a comedy. It has music but it is not a recital and it has dance but it is not musical. It has nudity but it is not a cabaret. It’s an experience. “It’s liberating and it’s cathartic.” The truth is that it is like that. What people just saw is explained at the end of the show. It is a rarity on the Buenos Aires billboard.
