Parasites has been a before and after in the history of Hollywood or, at least, in the history of its Academy with the Oscar. This Korean production directed by Bong Joon-ho won the Oscar for Best film and it was a phenomenon among the public and critics, bringing the American public closer to new cinematography where it might be necessary to read subtitles. Given such a celebration, it would have been logical to think that Bong had full confidence in Hollywood to make his next film (as he had already had in the past, when developing snowpiercer or Okja), but it hasn’t been like that at all.
Six years have passed since the premiere of Parasites. Bong has not been sitting still meanwhile, testing a series dedicated to Parasites with figures like Adam McKay or Tilda Swinton and, above all, developing a new feature film titled Mickey 17. And therein lies the problem: Bong shot the film in the summer of 2022 with sponsored by Warner Bros., but the major has postponed its release several times. The last date set was for March 29, 2024, and now the final one appears to be January 31, 2025.
