The musical career of the Puerto Rican, Luis Fonsi, has been marked by great successes and nuances. After 25 years of being on stage, the singer opened up about his future in music, in an exclusive for EFE.

The journey you have taken Luis Fonsi in his 25 years of career, has led him to be one of the Latin artists referenced by many Hispanics. His hits have resonated for generations in every corner of the world, however, he claims not to see himself doing what he likes most in another quarter of a century.

“I still have a lot of energy and I want to continue doing this for many more years, but one also has to know how to retire with dignity, I don’t think I’ll be dancing ‘Despacito’ with people at 65 or 70”said the Puerto Rican.

The singer of “I don’t give up” recalled his beginnings with his first record and the era when digital platforms and the way of selling oneself as artists were completely different from today.

“When I started my first album it was to fulfill a dream, it was to throw myself into the void through songs and see if, in some way, I was going to connect with the public,” Fonsi expressed.

“25 years ago, it was a different world, music was very different, especially the way records were promoted and consumed,” remember. “But I love how the world has been turning and growing. Now, I feel closer to the public, perhaps because of social networks (…) But, at the end of the road, within all the changes that there are, everything is summarized in a song, which is what I enjoy most about my profession”.

Every singer-songwriter has role models that they have used as inspiration to push themselves in the music industry, Luis Fonsi is no exception, and he claimed to have started conversations in the beginning with Juan Luis Guerrawhom he admires and respects, to learn about his artistic process and seek a source of inspiration for him.

There are still many years to enjoy the singer’s songs, however, ‘The Journey’ could be his last studio album.

New facet

Luis Fonsi began his path in the industry with the album “Comenzaré (1998)” and from there he reaped successes after successes, his collaboration with David Bisbal, Noel Schajris and Aleks Syntek in the song “Here I am”, It opened many doors for him in Latin America to make himself known.

However, his music took a turn when the balladeer migrated his rhythm and chords to a more urban and Caribbean sound, without a doubt, a great success when he got together with the reggaeton singer Daddy Yankee to create the world hit “Despacito”, a song that It transcended and reached every corner unimaginable for artists, breaking records in downloads, sales and views on YouTube.
