“I made a mistake”. Harrison Ford still regrets turning down a role for this film that later won an Oscar and that you can watch on Apple TV

The actor from Apple TV+’s ‘Unfiltered Therapy’ reveals what is one of the biggest mistakes in his career as an actor

Who was going to tell Harrison Ford that In 2006, George Clooney would snatch the Oscar for best supporting actor from him.. And no, at that time Ford was not even nominated as he was just 20 years earlier thanks to ‘Witness’. This time, it was a much more subtle “theft” of the statuette.

Clooney won that year what was his only individual statuette thanks to the film ‘Syriana’ in which Ford did not participate, but he was very close. This was, as Ford himself acknowledges, a serious mistake in his career and which he still regrets.

The second time Ford rejected Stephen Gaghan

It is not that Harrison Ford had a certain animosity towards working with the director and screenwriter Stephen Gaghan, but the truth is that in 2000 he refused to star in the film ‘Traffic’, directed by Steven Soderbergh and in which Gaghan had participated as the main screenwriter. . Ford doesn’t seem sorry about that one, but he does seem sorry about what happened with ‘Syriana’.

This other film, released in 2005 and directed by Gaghan, starred the aforementioned George Clooney and led him to win an Oscar for best supporting actor. And this is something that Harrison Ford could not imagine, since He was previously offered the role that later crowned Clooney. And although we don’t know if he would have suffered the same fate, the veteran actor seems remorseful.

“I didn’t feel identified enough and I think I made a mistake”Ford confessed in an interview with the Irish Examiner. He also pointed out that ‘Syriana’ later underwent changes that made it a much more realistic work than Ford was able to interpret when Gaghan offered him the role.

Although Ford’s career is full of great successes, the truth is that that season was not exactly characterized by a hit in the style of ‘Syriana’. And for this you only have to watch ‘Hollywood: Homicide Department’ or ‘Firewall’, two films that, although they will have their audience, were commercial failures.

Today ‘Syriana’ has gone down in history as a faithful portrait of the consequences of corruption in the Middle East at the expense of oil. It is not available on any major streaming platform, although it can be rented on platforms such as Apple TV for 3.99 euros or purchased to always have it available for 4.99 euros.
