In a recent interview with RCN’s La FM, the renowned journalist Jorge Ramos spoke about his new book “That’s how I see things” and reflected on his more than three decades in the world of journalism. Ramos shared personal and professional anecdotes that have marked his career, highlighting the importance of integrity and confrontation of power.

“One of the things that sometimes happens on the radio, and with us on television and in the media, is that when we are reporting the news, many times People don’t know what’s behind the microphones and cameras“, commented Ramos. “There are things that get stuck in your throat and in your stomach.”

Ramos also reflected on his unexpected path to journalism. “When I grew up I told my parents that I wanted to be an astronaut, a rocker, an Olympic athlete or a soccer player.but it never occurred to me to be a journalist,” he explained. His father, an architect, was initially skeptical about his career choice, but later understood Ramos’ passion when he saw him on television.

Regarding his style of journalism, Ramos emphasized the need to confront the powerful. “When you interview someone very important or someone who has power, I come with the attitude that if I don’t ask the hard questions, no one else will ask them.“he stated. This mentality has led him to conduct tense interviews with figures such as Nicolás Maduro and Donald Trumpalways seeking to maintain control of the conversation and establish a critical tone from the beginning.

Regarding the evolution of the media, Ramos recognized the transition towards digital and the importance of adapting to new platforms. “There is a huge transition and crisis within traditional media,” he said. “The audience is on social networks, not on television”
