Madrid, June 19 (EFE).- The Spanish flag in Madrid’s Plaza de Colón was solemnly raised this Wednesday to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the proclamation of King Felipe VI, in an event presided over by the judicial authorities, which They have reviewed units from the three armies and the Civil Guard.
The event, the first of those scheduled for June 19 in Madrid for the anniversary, was co-chaired by the president of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), Vicente Guilarte, and by the president of the Supreme Court, Francisco Marín, accompanied by the Chief of the Defense Staff (jemad), Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón.
It was held in the Gardens of Discovery, located in Madrid’s central Plaza de Colón, where the 300-square-meter flag was solemnly raised on the 50-meter-high mast.
Prior to the raising, Guilarte, Marín and López Calderón have reviewed four sections, of 27 members each, belonging to the Army, the Navy, the Air and Space Army and the Civil Guard, who have paraded around the Gardens of Discovery.
Among the attendees were the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, members of the CGPJ and judges of the Supreme Court, as well as military authorities and the Civil Guard.
The raising of the flag in Colón is carried out in an ordinary way once a month, but only four times a year it is done solemnly: on May 15 because it is Saint Isidro Labrador, patron saint of Madrid; June 19, by the king’s proclamation; on July 12, for the constitution of the Constitutional Court, and on December 6, for Constitution Day.
