For several years, José María “Pachu” Peña formed alongside Pablo Granados one of the funniest comedy duos on television. While everyone knows him by his nickname, few know what his real name is, much less the origin of that particular nickname. A while ago, the comedian revealed the reason behind his affectionate nickname.
It was during one of his visits to Los Mammones (América), a program hosted by Jey Mammón, that Pachu revealed the origin of his nickname. “We are three brothers, I am the youngest. When I was a baby, my mother had seen a French movie where she had seen a baby who, according to her, was just like me, and his name was ‘Patchouli.’”
The comedian also explained the detail that “Patchouli” It is the name of a fragrance. And it was then that with the passage of time, the affectionate name given by her mother was shortened until it was the one by which the entire country knew him.
Many years later, Pachu began his career in comedy and did so with a nickname included.. Likewise, Peña also spoke about the current situation in the country and showed his anguish about the poverty rate: “I am very aware of what has always been happening. I am very concerned about the growing poverty, the destitution. Since I was a child I remember seeing people on the street or people begging and nothing has changed. I don’t think a plan was ever thought of for people who have nothing. And we continue to fail. Governments pass and they continue to fail and poverty continues to grow.”
