Stanley Kubrick is one of those names in the world of cinema that no introduction neededsince countless stories and anecdotes have been told about him. One of the most curious was the one he starred in alongside the famous director James Cameron (‘Terminator 2’, ‘Aliens’, ‘Titanic’, ‘Avatar’). According to what he told in 2008 in an interview for DGA (the directors guild of america), This is what happened when he went to meet the great director in person which he says is his favorite movie.
“Yes, it was the gift I gave myself for my 40th birthday. I was on holiday in Europe and I called him and told him I was going to his house in England. My wife at the time I was afraid because he wasn’t going to be home for my birthday, but I told him, “I’m going to meet Stanley Kubrick. There is no gift, no surprise party, no nothing you can give me that can replace that“So I went to see a lonely guy who was hanging around a huge house and he just wanted to know how to ‘Dangerous Lies’ was made. He had a copy of the movie in his KEM in the basement and made me sit there and tell him how I had done all the effects shots. So I spent the whole time talking about my movie with Stanley Kubrick, which It wasn’t what I thought What was going to happen that day.
This curious experience inspired Cameron quite a bit, who closed the anecdote by saying “But I want to be like Stanley, I want to be that guy. When I’m 80 years old, I want to still be the guy who tries to figure everything out”.
