The day he was shot to death in his office I was seeing another doctora renowned specialist in heart surgery, who was with him when they heard the first shots that the murderer Jhon Ferney Cano attacked the secretary.

The patient, a prominent heart surgeon, He asked the urologist to protect themselves while they established what was happening but the victim preferred to open the door to see.

What they found was the secretary wounded by two shots, one in the abdomen and another in the arm. As soon as the murderer saw the urologist Juan Guillermo Aristizábal lHe was shot in the chest and head, causing death instantly.

Immediately after Jhon Ferney Cano noticed the patient, pointed it at him and hammered the gun that miraculously did not fire. Maybe it jammed or maybe the bullets in that load had run out.

Everything is narrated in a terrifying voice note that the surviving doctor recorded and sent to his colleagues. I cannot publish it because I do not have the permission of its author.

As has been known, the murderer wrote and left an extensive book in which he tells the story of his life and the reasons that, according to him, led him to plan the murder of Dr. Aristizábal for at least seven months.

The criminal determination has an exact date: Thursday, September 21, 2023, the same day he began writing the criminal manifesto.

The book, in addition to containing the personal history of the murderer, also includes the documents of his medical history and the urological treatment that, according to him, was born from a bad practice by the victim for which he decided to kill him.

I read all 369 pages and I spoke with a doctor who also read them to understand what was going through the mind of the murderer Jhon Ferney Cano. The specialist who shared his impressions pointed out that after having seen the medical history he is completely sure of two things:

  1. There is no evidence of medical error on the part of the victim, Dr. Juan Guillermo Aristizábal. If there had been, it wouldn’t have cost him his life either, everyone can make mistakes, but his colleague assures that the urologist rigorously followed the protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of the person who would become his murderer.
  2. It is not true, as has been stated without scientific basis, that the murderer had suffered a postoperative complication. The surgery produced the expected results and the recovery was satisfactory. According to the published clinical history, the pain he suffered had no origin or aggravation due to the intervention.

Jhon Ferney Cano’s book and his clinical history show that he was not schizophrenic, as someone has claimed, but He did have a psychopathic and obsessive personality.

Cano also reflects in his writing an exceptional intelligence that did not have the opportunity to develop.

He was the son of very poor peasants, who emigrated to a commune in Medellín. His childhood is marked by hungerdomestic violence, the school bullying of which he was a victim and a neighborhood environment surrounded by hitmen and gang members.

Although he admits that he was an undisciplined student, he also says that he was excellent in mathematics and became the best student in his grade. However, the very poor conditions of his life prevented him from reaching the University of Antioquia to study a professional career as he would have liked.

The murderer began to suffer labor exploitation from a very young age. He tended cows in exchange for miserable pay and for many years he was unable to have a job under formal conditions. The income from his first jobs was below the minimum wage and he had to work many more hours than those established in the legal day.

Nothing justifies his crimes but the story of his life is shocking due to everything he suffered and the early deterioration of his health. QHe suffered dental pain and, at a very young age, injured his spinal column, apparently permanently, by carrying sand beyond his muscular capacity..

However, the illness that led him to become a murderer and suicide began in 2016. His girlfriend infected him with a sexually transmitted disease. Although a veteran, retired urologist treated him successfully, he continued to complain of pain in his private parts.

The book is full of reproaches to the EPS who, according to him, delayed his appointments with specialists and denied him ordered examinations.

Trying to find relief, he decided to go on his own, that is, at his own expense, to the urologist Juan Guillermo Aristizábal, a university professor who examined him and recommended he have a circumcision.

Operation that was performed successfully and without complicationsaccording to the clinical history.

This surgery, which is performed in early childhood, leaves no trace; in adults it can leave a keloid scar. It was the case of Cano who complained because, according to him, his penis looked very ugly, to which was added the pain that had nothing to do with the circumcision but apparently with a rare neuropathy of the pudendal nerve.

From that moment on, the threats to the doctor began. He also visited numerous urologists to be told that he had had a bad operation. Which he never achieved. The specialists told him that the operation had been performed correctly.

In the book he brings a rude disqualification of the urologists of Medellín, he says of them that they are “cowards, crafty, hypocritical, mediocre, greedy, starving and complete sons of bitches.”

Add that If I could I would hang them or impale them”.

The book also contains the death sentence of Dr. Aristizábal: I have decided that the individual who vilely mutilated my penis must die.” “This scum must be struck repeatedly with a gun until all its organs are pierced, especially its putrid heart” “Seeing it bleed is my desire and I will work with devotion to annihilate that garbage.”

The murderer was also very resentful of two lawyers he hired to sue the doctor Aristizábal.

The first of them recommended that he reconcile, since The doctor wanted to avoid the lawsuit and offered him compensation of 5 million pesos. Cano refused, saying that he preferred to continue a civil process that was unsuccessful because there was no proof of the urologist’s responsibility.

A second lawyer asked Cano for two and a half million to investigate whether there was a record of Dr. Aristizábal or anything that would allow another lawsuit to be substantiated. When he told him that he found nothing, the killer felt betrayed.

Cano assures in his book that the doctor laughed and mocked his claims. Those who knew the doctor consider it unlikely that he would have acted that way. Anyway, the only two people present at the conversation today are dead.

The book contains two words that caught my attention: a “patatas” to refer to potatoes and “chaval” to a young boy.

The metadata of the electronic document will be reviewed by murder investigators to find out if someone knew and edited the manifesto before the crime and did not warn the authorities what was happening in Jhon Ferney Cano’s brain.
