Puerto Varas will host “First Congress on the Use of Antibiotics in Aquaculture: A multidisciplinary vision”

Hundreds of experts, representatives of the aquaculture industry and authorities will participate in the “First Congress on the Use of Antibiotics in Aquaculture: A multidisciplinary vision”, an event that will feature renowned researchers in the field. The three-day scientific program will include keynote talks, oral presentations, poster exhibitions and technical workshops.

“If the current trend continues, the use of antibiotics in the world will increase by 30% by 2030. In Chile, the industry is committed to going against this trend and the first fruits of a work of years: antibiotic consumption has reduced by 12% in the last six years. “Optimizing the use of antibiotics is crucial to avoid negative impacts on aquaculture,” explained the Senior Fellow of Monterey Bay Aquarium, Rolando Ibarra.

Furthermore, the expert added that this instance “will be a unique opportunity for researchers, producers, suppliers, civil society and regulators to share new knowledge, experiences, trends and doubts, with the aim of strengthening the path towards the sustainability of aquaculture.” local and global.”

For his part, the general manager of Intesal, Esteban Ramírez, stressed that “this matter is especially relevant for our organization and the industry as a whole, given that it requires permanent research and development to address the challenges that health matters pose to us. in particular the control of bacterial diseases. For this reason, he highlighted that this important activity is being carried out where we will have researchers and participants of the highest level.”

To achieve the stated objectives, the event will have a Scientific Committee made up of renowned researchers. Among them is Javiera Cornejo, from the Faculty of Veterinary and Livestock Sciences of the University of Chile; Fernando Mardones, from the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile; Rubén Avendaño, Researcher at the Incar Center and the Andrés Bello University, and Pablo Ibieta from the Pincoy Project.

The Organizing and Scientific Committee is already working on this important event and will soon announce the start of the reception of abstracts and the evaluator researchers in charge of reviewing them for the conference program.
