There are serious signs of mistreatment, violence, sexual and commercial exploitation against indigenous children of the Emberá community
which are settled in the Enrique Olaya Herrera National Park. Councilor Julián Uscáteguí presented an appeal to put a magnifying glass on the state of health and well-being of minors.

The ruling of the guardianship forces the ICBF to Before June 20, follow up on minors, since some deaths due to malnutrition have been reported since 2023, since children and adolescents do not have basic needs such as food, personal hygiene, or medical care supplies. On the other hand, so far in 2024, two cases of female genital mutilation have been reported in a 23-day-old baby and a 13-year-old girl.

“The authorities must guarantee the return or relocation of the Emberá community found in the National Park.
“Children cannot continue to suffer the harshness of abandonment or suffer all this type of humiliation,” stated the councilor of the Democratic Center.

From the Council of Bogotá they request that the Mayor’s Office relocate minors to safe places away from urban areas with a high flow of people. Likewise, access to public services such as water, sanitation and medical care is guaranteed.
