Europe will address the legislative proposal on animal welfare in dogs and cats in a meeting

Next week, the General Directorate of Health and Food Safety (SANTE) of the European Comission will host the 15th meeting of the European Union Platform (EU) on Animal Welfare.

The meeting, which will begin on 17 June at 2:00 p.m. and will continue until 18 June, will provide the opportunity to update Platform members on the work of the Belgian Presidency in area of animal welfare and on the priorities of the next Hungarian Presidency.

In this way, the Commission will present the Commission staff working document summarizing the evidence that support the legislative proposal on the welfare of dogs and cats and their traceabilityas well as the reactions of citizens on this proposal and on the proposal relating to the protection of animals during transport.

The agenda also includes the presentation of the activities of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) related to the cattle welfarethe turkeysthe fur animals and horsesan update on the work of the four EU Reference Centers on Animal Welfare and on the ‘Better training for safer food’ programme.

In addition, members will be informed about the Strategic Dialogue on the future of Agriculture and the results of two important research projects: ClearFarm and PPILOW.

Finally, we will present the results of the call for applications and the future tasks of the new subgroup on animal welfare policy indicators and information will be exchanged on the functioning of the Platform and its achievements.
