Along these lines, the architect specified that the building is made of concrete, with three floors, with 3,200 square meters that will contain science laboratories, for general use in the health area, classrooms, anatomy and clinical simulation laboratories, common areas. and teaching offices.

Medical Commission

Dr. Ximena Acuña, family medicine and community, since March 2024, joined the Medical Commission, dedicated to the development of subjects in the curricula of the ULagos Medicine degree. In this mission, she is contributing to primary care in the curriculum and “I love that there is participation resulting in a well-trained general practitioner who has a more comprehensive biopsychosocial perspective, which is what our society really needs,” he claimed.

A good doctor, added Dr. Acuña, “from a technical point of view and a good person from a human point of view. So, the humanistic part of medicine is combined,” projection.

Regarding the curricular mesh, the professional explained that there are several branches related to the vision of comprehensive training; “psychology, introduction to medicine, family medicine I and II, semiology, in all basic branches there will be an emphasis on integrality and what we are going to see, which are people, not organs, and this is fundamental, it is what our society is currently asking for, that they be seen as people,” he asserted.

History

Making history, the process of the project to create the ULagos medical degree program began in 2021, in the month of August, with representation and support from the University of Chile and a commission that was created at that time and The work has gone through different periods.

It began with the initial discussions around the graduation profile, then the construction of the graduation profile was carried out, which has the particularity of having citizen participation from all the provinces of the region, in which the users were consulted, the professionals, doctors, about what were the characteristics, the competencies, that a medical professional trained at a public university and in the Los Lagos region should have.

Once the graduation profile was built, it was validated, what was considered “important meetings with doctors from the region, from Palena to Osorno, from the entire scope of the healthcare network who participated in that activity and from which many elements were taken that were inputs for this graduation profile. “We have advanced in the areas, the competencies and now we are in the mesh and specifically we are in the subject programs,” detailed the coordinator of the ULagos Medicine Project, María Paz Contreras.

The academic delved into the work of the curricular mesh of the first two years of subjects, “in great detail, finishing the second year, which has meant a very important reflection and conversation. Subcommittees have been set up that are working with university academics from different areas, basic sciences, psychology, sociology, among others, who are working with the teams of the Medical Commission to build the subject programs and give them the meaning that they respond exactly to the graduation profile that we want”, stood out.

At the same time, Christopher Thackeray, Director of Strategic Studies at ULagos, He reported that the Directorate of Strategic Studies monitors new career projects. And the Medicine degree project, in particular, due to the complexity of the degree, required longer, more in-depth work and in a larger, more comprehensive team. “which perhaps in the case of other careers that we have seen so far and, therefore, I have been part of this project since it began, carrying out studies, having information in a first stage, articulating and coordinating the different authors of the institution ”, accurate.

The professional emphasized that “We did a job, I would say, that was very innovative when it came to building the graduation profile, because in addition to consulting the graduation profile of other higher education institutions, the standards defined by Sofamed, the CNA criteria, we did a job through surveys of medical personnel and non-medical health personnel to consult what skills, competencies, what elements were important for a doctor to have in the Los Lagos region. Group interviews were also carried out with patients from the four provinces of the Los Lagos region, to ask them what they imagined a doctor serving in our region should be like. And we accompany this construction, since we have prepared studies of different kinds, of infrastructure that is being developed through public investment in the region, some medical indicators such as hospitalization, emergencies,” he pointed out.

Survey

The survey was developed with the collaboration of the Quality Assurance Department, to identify the skills, competencies, attitudes, even values that seemed to be important for a professional who practices medicine.

“A professional who understands the territory where he is inserted and this implies having certain institutional seals such as the gender perspective, the understanding that he lives in a region with a high percentage of inhabitants belonging to indigenous peoples who have certain psychosocial and cultural factors, which make “It is necessary for the doctor to know and understand in order to provide better treatment, support and a better diagnosis to the inhabitants of the region,” ended, Christopher Thackeray, Director of Strategic Studies at ULagos.
