In a communication with www.continentalcorrientes.com, Angelina Bobadilla, director of Epidemiology of Corrientes, emphasized the importance of using antibiotics only under medical prescription.

Within the framework of the National Day for the Responsible Use of Antibiotics, the Ministry of Public Health of Corrientes made an urgent call to the population to avoid self-medication, especially in the current context of circulation of acute respiratory infections.

“Public Health reminds us not to self-medicate. Antibiotics should only be used with a doctor’s prescription,” said Bobadilla.

Importance of Responsible Use of Antibiotics

From the provincial health portfolio, citizens were reminded that resistance to antibiotics is a worrying phenomenon. “Antibiotic resistance is the adaptation that some bacteria suffer so that the medications with which they are treated have no effect on them,” explained the director of Epidemiology. This resistance causes the medications used to treat common infections to become ineffective, complicating treatment and recovery.

Recommendations for the Appropriate Use of Antibiotics

To promote the responsible use of antibiotics, health authorities suggest:

Only use antibiotics prescribed by a doctor or dentist.
Do not medicate pets without a prescription from a veterinarian.
Respect the dose and duration of the prescribed antibiotics.
Do not use leftover antibiotics or share them with other people.

Angelina Bobadilla highlighted the relevance of these recommendations in the context of acute respiratory infections. “In this context of circulation of acute respiratory infections, it is important to keep this in mind. Antibiotics are not useful for viral infections, they are used to control bacteria,” she clarified.

Likewise, Bobadilla recalled that there are both a ministerial and a provincial commission dedicated to addressing this problem. These commissions work continuously to educate the population and control the use of antibiotics in the province.
