For a building to be healthy must meet these 5 dimensions: that improves physical and mental health, that is designed for human needs and is built and maintained in a sustainable way, that is resilient and adaptive and that empowers people. These are the golden rules of healthy building proposed by architect Almudena López de Rego, prescription manager at VELUX Spain, a firm that has just presented its Healthy Buildings Barometer 2024, with the intention of outlining “the path towards healthier, sustainable and resilient buildings,” they indicate.

The starting point of this study is not very encouraging since it reveals that “one in four Europeans lives in buildings where air quality is below national standards and more than 30 million citizens are affected by living in spaces too dark, with an impact on mental and physical health,” they point out from Velux.
