Matt Camp reveals something interesting: WWE thought about putting Dr. Anthony Fauci in The Bump with WWE wrestlers in a pandemic.
In the United States, and for the whole world, Dr. Anthony Fauci was one of the faces visible aspects of the covid-19 pandemic. Your opinions regarding what to do and what not to do in the pandemic were key during this time of uncertainty for the world.
And although many of his decisions can be discussed today, at the time, he became a great celebrity. So much so that WWE had it in mind for who was one of the special guests on WWE’s The Bump, where he could have interacted with several Superstars WWE talking about the pandemic. This was revealed by former WWE The Bump host Matt Camp for his YouTube channel called The Wrestling Matt:

«As the months went by… Dr. Anthony Fauci was in the news a lot, trying to spread information about the vaccine and so on, and it was appearing everywhere and on television. Turns out, I found out about this, I don’t think I knew it while it was happening, or maybe I knew it right at the end.
I’ve said it before, The Bump didn’t get a lot of love within the company, but it was sometimes used in certain ways. The Bump I could generate money for the company with sponsorships and things like that. If you see again Some of those pandemic episodes, we had the most random people who are not from the wrestling world.
We had the Property Brothers, we had some YouTuber from Mexico, we had Ken Jeong, we had Joel McHale, we had Keegan-Michael Key, we had Randy Jackson, you name it. We had all these random people, and they didn’t attract… not very well. There was that wrestling bubble that, no I think people will care about celebrities. That’s why I thought the guest hosts of
“Raw never did it so well, unless they were interested.”
«If they were interested, it was a fun interview. But this wasn’t about that. So the conversations really began and took place with the White House, the White House, the President. There were conversations happening with the White House about this, this is a large global entity and there is another way to spread information about Dr. Fauci, who became the main character of COVID and the pandemic, appearing on… that guy was going to appear on WWE programming to spread information about the vaccine or awareness about the vaccine and all that.
So there was actual communication with the White House, and it was determined that this appearance, I think was discussed in different ways, would occur in The Bump. In some ways, that was the middle, and if you think about it, what else could it have been?
Any kind of pre-recording that happened during Raw and SmackDown? Maybe, but this was the only live talk show to do it, so it’s okay. It probably would have been pre-recorded, we recorded
many things during the pandemic. But the idea was, here is the right forum.”
«Doing it on The Bump. There were conversations, and I’ll tell you, I guess from a digital regime, it’s like one and a half regimes back, and there was confidence in our program, and I will say specific confidence in myself and Kayla Braxton to handle that. So part of the discussion was to involve top talent. Drew McIntyre, the other name that was mentioned, I’m not going to speculate on anything, but Sasha Banks was the other name.
It was supposed to be them, and it was going to happen. I’m 99 percent sure Stephanie McMahon was okay with this. She, as far as I know, agreed with this idea. So she got pretty far, and she had one more stop, Vince. Initially, I was told that Vince was okay with it. You have to remember, it’s not that everything
It would go through Vince, but a lot yes. “This was something big, it was something important to the company, so he would have to approve it.”
“Initially, I was told I agreed, and when it came to of, ‘Hey, this is going to happen, all the details have been worked out,’ I don’t know if in the end it was going to be Drew McIntyre and Sasha Banks, today Mercedes Moné. I think Drew was going to be involved.
It was just going to be, I think the idea was a round table about the pandemic and living in it and being entertainers in it, disseminate information about the vaccine, all that. But Vince had to give the [pulgar arriba] finaland he did this [pulgar abajo]. As you might expect, it was considered too political.
«It was one of the few times he was directly involved with the program, as far as I know. Vince said no, and it didn’t happen. That was the end of that. I think the intention was good.
