The Minister of Health, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, stated that Resources will be guaranteed so that medical graduates can complete their rural year mandatory, without the limitations on new positions that, according to him, persist. He also referred to the possibility of extending “to other professions.”

The head of the health portfolio said that, within the framework of primary health care, The aim is to form around 11,500 basic teams made up of between six and eight people. The official added that in the past many positions had been reduced because “there was no possibility of meeting the demand for new professionals.”

“The president has a principle, within primary care, of forming around 11,500 basic teams (…). We are talking about a large number of professionals (…). Now with these teams, which will be hired in 2024, this year we will reach 10,000, there will be the possibility for all those who leave not only the Faculty of Medicine to be able to do their mandatory year,” he stressed.

On the other hand, Jaramillo referred to meetings every two weeks after the intervention to several EPS and said These were under “special” audits to, in his words, “corroborate what was found in each one.” He also seemed ‘confident’ in reaching consensus in Congress to give the green light to a new health reform project.
