“Yoga changed my life because I feel more energetic, eager to continue living and reach 100 years old,” says Gloria Gutiérrez, a student at the Villa Los Andes municipal yoga workshop.

“Yoga has brought me many benefits for health and also for the psychological part, because our instructor has taught us meditation,” emphasizes Mercedes Maureira, user of the workshop of the Neighborhood Council No. 2 of Sargento Aldea.

Both participated in the massive, free and inclusive class with which Chillán celebrated World Yoga Day at the Quilamapu Sports Center, where 259 people arrived.

“Happy because we defined this discipline and we see the way in which the community in Quilamapu participates massively, with an activity that helps physical and mental health,” emphasized the mayor of Chillán, Camilo Benavente, who stressed that there are 16 active workshops in different sectors of the city.

“Happy to benefit older adults and people who learned about yoga today and were fascinated. We hope to repeat it every year,” declared Matías Parra, in charge of the Physical, Recreational and Social Activity Program.

Instructors Karola Reyes and Alejandra Cruces, who lead yoga workshops offered by the municipality of Chillán, conducted the masterclass, together with two students, from the stage set up in the venue. “People enjoyed it. We observed how the emotional part is consolidated and makes our physical body feel good,” Alejandra Cruces stressed.

“It was wonderful because all types of people came, an evening with children, adults, older adults and young people,” said Alejandra Cruces.

“For me, this is body and soul. We have a nice group and it encourages us. Yoga is fantastic, I was in India and there it is a wonderful discipline,” revealed Carmen Budón, a student of the workshop at the Nelson Oyarzún Stadium.

“Yoga changed my life because I suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and it helped me relax and relieve joint pain,” said Virginia Villablanca, still smiling.
