On Thursday, Israel’s Ministry of Health issued a statement providing further information on the current status of the West Nile fever outbreak in the country.

According to information from the ministry, there are already 81 infected people, of which 64 are hospitalized. Of those, 6 have assisted ventilation. There have already been 7 deaths. 20% of those infected have symptoms, including fever, headaches and body aches, and less than 1% are experiencing neurological problems.

The Ministry of Health stressed that the virus is not transmitted from person to person, but is mainly transmitted by birds and is transmitted to animals and humans through mosquito bites.

Female mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant bodies of water, so the Ministry of Health also stressed the recommendation to replace water in flower vases and change pets’ water bowls at least once a week.

Most of the infections occurred in the central region of the country. due to the high humidity of the area, which makes it an ideal environment for mosquito reproduction.
