The Colombian municipality of Sincé, located in the heart of the department of Sucre, was the guest of honor at the International Latin American Habitat Summit (CIHALC)held in Chile.

This picturesque town is emerging as a hidden gem that is beginning to gain attention not only nationally, but also on the international stage. With its rich history, vibrant culture and hospitable people, Sincence has become a destination that is gaining popularity among travelers and foreign investors..

With a history dating back to pre-Columbian times, Since is a place steeped in tradition and cultural legacy. Founded in the 17th century by Spanish colonizers, the municipality has preserved much of its colonial architecture, which blends harmoniously with more modern buildings. Its cobbled streets and colorful houses bear witness to its past and its unique identity.

It is said that “100 Years of Solitude”, the masterpiece of our Nobel Prize winner in literature, Gabriel García Márquez, has in its pages traces of Gabo’s memory in the years he lived in this municipality.

Precisely, This past of Gabo has given a special ingredient to Sincé, which is a cultural power in Colombia and is positioning itself as a cradle of magical realism.

For this reason recently signed an agreement with the province of Vicuña, in Chile, of brotherhood, with which they seek to build a Network of Nobel Cities.

The Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez spent part of his childhood in the Colombian municipality, which appears in the book “Living to tell it”, while on the Chilean side is the hometown of Gabriela Mistral.

Andrés Aldana, mayor of the municipality of Sincé, was present at the International Latin American Habitat Summit (CIHALC), in Chile, where he spoke about safe cities for sustainable tourism and the enhancement of heritage.

“The key lesson that Gabriel García Márquez has left us is to investigate to create. That is, absorbing from life and collecting from reality everything possible to narrate it with maximum freedom and discipline, and thus, with perseverance, achieve the magic of rediscovering life. He is an example and motivation for Sincé and the children and young people who are educated here,” explained the mayor.

The culture of Sincence is fascinating. Music, dance and gastronomy are central elements of daily life, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere that captivates those who visit.

In recent years, Sincence has experienced notable economic growth, driven largely by tourism and foreign investment. With its strategic location between important urban centers such as Cartagena and Barranquilla, the municipality has become an attractive destination for those seeking to explore the cultural and natural riches of the Colombian Caribbean.

Tourism development efforts have led to the creation of new infrastructure, such as boutique hotels, gourmet restaurants and guided tours which allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in the heartfelt experience.

“In our municipality we know that education is key to progress. More than 17% of the population in Sincé are children, so we have the goal of training them so that they can become factors of change like Gabo did,” concluded Aldana.
