Jon Bon Jovi recently revealed some details about her personal life and 35-year marriage during a special interview with Michael Strahan on “Halfway There” from ABC. The musician confessed to having excessively enjoyed the rock star lifestyle during the band’s early days in the 1980s.
“I got away with it. I’m a rock and roll star, I’m not a saint. I’m not saying there haven’t been 100 girls in my life, I’m Jon Bon Jovi. “It was pretty good.” declared the singer in the special.
Despite his success and having become a “sex symbol” after the release of Bon Jovi’s first album in 1984, Jon highlighted the importance of his relationship with Dorothea, his wife, to whom he has been linked since his youth. “There is no doubt in my mind that this world turns because of her.”said the musician, praising the vital role Dorothea has played in keeping the family together and supporting him throughout the ups and downs of his career.
Jon also reiterated that all that “excess love” he had during Bon Jovi’s heyday never distracted him from his true priorities.
“But if you think I was ever going to jeopardize my… Anything, by believing that the narcissist in me was real? What a stupid thing What kind of excesses does a man need who is going to feed that fire? It’s just not worth it,” explained the “Wanted, Dead or Alive” singer just a few days after confessing that during his marriage “he was not a saint,” but reiterating that none of his “antics” were serious enough to to throw away what he built with Dorothea.
“The magic for me has simply been growing up with Dorothea. It’s about never lying about having been a saintbut also not be so stupid as to ruin family life.”
The couple, who began dating when they both attended the same high school and shared a similar circle of friends, married in 1989 at Graceland Chapel in Las Vegas. This year, they are preparing to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary, a milestone that Jon Bon Jovi attributes to his wife’s “tolerance” of the difficulties they have faced together.
“He’s certainly not afraid to call my attention to something, but he’s also there when I fall. And I’m there for her when she falls off her. No matter where I’ve gone in my career, the ups and downs, we’ve gone together.”
Jon and Dorothea share four children and, according to Jon, they have remained close, facing each stage of their lives together, both personal and professional.
And although the musician seems to have found the formula to have a successful marriage, it seems that not everything is perfect. During the special screening of the documentary Thank You Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Storythe artist walked the red carpet on his own, highlighting the absence of his wife.
Various media considered that it was a response on Dorothea’s part due to these controversial statements by Jon where he has declared without any major problem that he did not fully respect his marriage vows and there were no consequences. However, the couple has not made any statements regarding Dorothea’s absence at the event so far.
Another statement by Jon Bon Jovi that has generated a scandal occurred last weekend, when the musician said that at first he was not delighted with “Living on a Prayer”one of his most emblematic pieces.
“It’s not that I didn’t want to record it, but I wasn’t very impressed the day we wrote it.”Jon explained, adding that as the various elements came together, the song came to life and showed its enormous potential.
