The Peruvian film director, Alex Hidalgoknown for his film ‘Vaguito’, which continues to be a hit at the box office due to its inspiring message and plot, has responded to accusations about not fulfilling promised donations to shelters if the project is successful.
Amid the wide recognition that the film has received, Gentleman offered more details about the complaint and announced that he will file a criminal complaint in response to the fraud accusations directed towards him. In an interview with the program ‘Amor y Fuego’, the producer defended his position, claiming to be the object of defamation by two individuals related to the production of his film projects.
According to Hidalgo, one of the accusing parties is a person for whom a film was made; however, conflicts arose over the project’s financial documentation. “To one of them, that the movie was made about him and that he said no. And the film is there, I have a way to show it, except that when she was asked for documentation of the money she received under sponsorship, she became my enemy,” she said at the beginning for the Willax television show program.
On the other hand, he indicated that the other case of non-conformity is due to a project scheduled to begin production just before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in the loss of the investment made so far. Gentleman expressed its intention to resolve the situation amicably, which was rejected by one of the plaintiff parties, which demanded the immediate return of its investment.
“And the other person, with whom unfortunately a deal was made: that it was recorded on April 6, 2020. And what happened in the fortnight of March of that year? The pandemic. So, what was invested, unfortunately, was lost. But I always wanted to reach an agreement to wait for all that to happen, but the lady wanted her money and it was already invested,” she said.
In addition to addressing these accusations, Alex Hidalgo highlighted his commitment to the community through charitable contributions derived from his work in ‘Vaguito’. He noted that a portion of his royalties from a book based on the film, as well as a portion of the box office proceeds produced by ‘Bamboo Picture’s, the production company behind ‘Vaguito,’ have been donated. These donations are intended to support various communities, reflecting the director’s effort to contribute positively to society beyond his artistic contributions.
“Part of the percentage that corresponds to me as the author of the ‘Vaguito’ book has been allocated to charity, as well as a part of the box office generated by the production company Bamboo Pictures will also be donated,” he concluded.
