After talking about the difficulties that both Vanessa de la Torre and “Malú” Fernández went through during their careers as journalists and as mothers, de la Torre asked her what the separation process had been like while she had just had a one-month-old baby. born, to which Fernández responded: “Yes, a baby in arms, in a bottle and I separated because the marriage was not working and I avoided reaching other dimensions of depression, hatred or abuse, not physical but emotional. So, before reaching that stage of something that was seen coming, it was better to make the decision. That’s what many women go through and I had to live it.”

He added that this process was difficult because, “this society is set up in a way that if you are married or have a relationship, then the man or the father assumes what corresponds to him and the woman assumes what also corresponds to her, but when These father figures are absent, they are also absent from other obligations and other duties that are economic.”

He explained that one of the situations that was most difficult for him to go through was when he started earning more money than his partner, the relationship began to be affected.

“I began to assume financial responsibility for the children with very little help. I did a process, not because I lacked it financially, but out of dignity and because this exercise has to be done by women in Colombia. If the father is not financially responsible for the children, there are some spaces here and there are criminal complaints for family non-attendance”, to which Vanessa de la Torre asked “Did you report it?” and Fernández responded “Of course yes, criminally and it was very difficult, but I learned that this has to be done, it is an exercise that is part of the law and in that sense it has to work. If he does not want to pay because he does not want to, which is fraud, the law forces men, or in other cases women, to respond emotionally and financially for their children.

Who is María Lucía Fernández’s husband?

In addition to this, the journalist spoke about her current partner, businessman Ricardo Alarcón Gaviria, when Vanessa de la Torre said: “After that first marriage we talked about, you know an older, very successful man, who was president of this publishing house, of Caracol Radio, and it was the reason why he had to stop doing radio here at Caracol Radio.”

“I met him at a time when I was already separated, he too, we met at a moment in life that I think was the right time, we got married and we have been together for 25 years.”

In the podcast, the journalists reflected on what it meant to have a relationship with someone older, to which “Malú” explained, “I think I had a policy and that was to make my life easy and happy, and we are absolutely happy. We met with children, I with two, he with two, who got along very well. And they are grown up and we are in another stage of life. (…) Today we are in a perfect stage of life and we are already alone, without children, everyone is already organized, they are already grown up and what a delight the person that I saw many years ago, that we had others with other dynamics , today to see each other again and say, what a delight to be together and alone.”
