In the Mexico Citythe Attorney General’s Office (FGJ) keeps several criminals notorious people whose activities have largely remained out of the public domain.

Despite the reluctance of the authorities to speak openly about these individuals, their search is a known fact thanks to journalistic sources, such as Antonio Nietowho have managed to shed light on these dark characters.

Among them are several whose stories seem taken from a film script, but are an alarming reality in the Mexican capital and its neighboring states, and which exacerbate violence in the metropolitan region while remaining in the shadows.

Known for his closeness with “Elvis”, undisputed leader of the Unión Tepito, Pedro Ramírez Pérez, alias “The Apples” or “The Ham” operates just below how Roberto Moyado Esparza, alias “El Betito” did in 2017.

His criminal record includes an impressive homicide count since 2014, making him one of the most elusive and dangerous criminals. Despite having been detained in Cancun in 2019, he remains free, orchestrating faceless crimes for the authorities.

Little had been heard about Francisco Medinas, alias “Paco Pacas”, until now. His ability to coordinate the movement of weapons and drugs between Mexico City, the State of Mexico and Guerrero places him as a highly important criminal leader.

His appearance alongside José Alfredo Hurtado Olascoaga, alias “El Fresa”, of the Familia Michoacana only confirms his influence within organized crime networks.

In 2021, the authorities were carrying out investigations after the murder of a restaurant businessman at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and in one of the lines of investigation “Paco Pacas” appeared, whose nickname he obtained because he allegedly hid firearms among the bales of clothes that are usually traded in markets or flea markets.

In 2021, journalist Carlos Jiménez said that he had left the Familia Michoacana to join the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), but this information has not been confirmed.

Christian Jesús, leader of the October 22 Union, “Jimmy”, has extended his extortion network from Iztapalapa to the volcano region in the State of Mexico. Linked to homicides and the disappearance of members of rival syndicates, his presence is a constant reminder of the danger he represents to society.

From the mayor’s office Tlalpan in the capital to the state of Morelos, the “Boludo” is infamous for his involvement in a wide range of crimes. Despite multiple arrests, he remains free, evidencing his strong connections with Michoacan and Colombian drug traffickers, and highlighting the difficulty of containing his criminal influence.

Previously a member of the Gastones, “El Johny” has found new allies in the Michoacana Family, expanding his territory to the demarcations of Tláhuac, Iztapalapa and Milpa Alta. Its growth, despite the arrests, underscores the complexity of the war against cartels in Mexico.

Flying over the streets of Azcapotzalco and Náhuatl, Néstor Arturo López, alias “El 20”, It has become an almost ungraspable spectrum for the authorities. Attributing countless murders and criminal alliances to him, his figure has become emblematic of the challenge that certain criminals represent for Mexican justice.

According to the description offered by the authorities, he is a man who has no particular characteristics, is around 30 years old, has short hair, dark skin and short, straight hair. At least in the capital, a reward of up to 300 thousand pesos was offered for his capture. He is identified as the alleged leader of the Nueva Alianza group.

These criminals represent only a fraction of the challenges facing the justice in CDMX and its surroundings. Their existence in the shadows, moving almost invisible to society and the authorities, raises questions about the effectiveness of the fight against organized crime and the need for more effective strategies to ensure the public security.
