Ian Gelder, the ‘Game of Thrones’ actor who played Kevan Lannister, dies at 74

Ian Gelder the British actor known for giving life to Kevan Lannister in the HBO phenomenon Game of Thrones, He died on Monday at the age of 74 due to bile duct cancer that he was diagnosed with in December. This was reported by his partner, the actor as well. Ben Daniels, via Instagram.

Daniels has shared a photo taken last Christmas, after Gelder left the hospital, in which they are both seen smiling.

Daniels has expressed his “enormous sadness” and has assured that he has “heart broken into a million pieces” when announcing the death of her husband of more than 30 years. The widower has explained that he left work to take care of him and that Gelder always remained positive.

Gelder was his “rock” during their relationship: “If we weren’t together, we talked every day.” “He was the kindest human being, generous in spirit and loving. He was a wonderful actor and everyone who worked with him was moved by his heart and light. Honestly, I don’t know what I’ll do without him by my side,” he said.

With a decades-long career dedicated primarily to theater, his best-known role is that of Kevan Lannister in Game of Thrones. Kevan, who appeared several times throughout the series, was the brother of Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) and uncle of Cersei (Lena Headey), Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Tyrion (Peter Dinklage).

Gelder was also known for his intervention in television fiction by Agatha Christie and numerous plays, including several by Shakespeare. On the small screen, in addition to playing Kevan Lannister, he also participated in Torchwood, dark matter and Doctor Who.
