Lino Nava, guitarist of the rock band La Lupita, dies

Mexican rock is in mourning. Lino Nava, guitarist and founder of the group La Lupita, died on Tuesday (May 7) in Mexico City after a long battle with brain cancer. He was 55 years old.

The Ministry of Culture of Mexico City mourned the death of the Mexican musician, composer and producer, and extended its condolences to his family and friends.

“From his first professional years with his first band Raxas in 1988, until the formation of La Lupita three years later, Nava demonstrated his skills on the guitar with memorable riffs on albums like To Serve You (1992), How Beautiful Almost Everything is (1994), Three-D (nineteen ninety six), Hard candy (1998) and Lupitology (2004)”, expressed the Secretariat in its official account on X.

Originally from the capital, Nava was considered one of the best rock guitarists in Mexico. He co-founded La Lupita in 1991 and the following year released the band’s debut album, To Serve You. In 2007 he worked on a project called Recolector, recording an album in which international figures participated such as drummer Frank Ferrer (Guns N’Roses) and guitarists Robin Finck (Nine Inch Nails) and Rusty Anderson (from the group Paul MCCARTNEY).

In 2019, Nava reported that he had brain cancer and would undergo various treatments and surgeries. Two years later, she celebrated that she had won the battle against the disease with an emotional message on her social networks: “Hello! Last night they gave me incredible news. After two and a half years, five surgeries, months of chemotherapy, radiation and more, I am cancer free! Yeahhhh! Thank you to all the amazing and loving people who were there for me, total love! Live life!”.

Weeks later, he returned to the stage with La Lupita, in the company of vocalist Héctor Quijada. But in August 2022, during a concert by the group at the Teatro Metropólitan in Mexico City, Quijada announced that for health reasons, Nava would not be able to participate in the show.
