the english actor Ian Gelder died at 74after being diagnosed with a cancer in the bile ducts last December. The news was confirmed on Tuesday by her agent, Daniel Albert, and her husband, actor Ben Daniels.
“With enormous sadness and a heavy heart, broken into a million pieces, I leave this post to announce the death of my dear husband and life partner.Ian Gelder,” Daniels posted on his Instagram account, along with a photo of the two that was taken on “Christmas, after I took him out of the hospital.”
“Although he had gone through the worst three weeks there, you can still see his joy and love shining through,” he concluded, after noting that the time between him quitting his job to take care of Gelder and his death passed “very quickly.” They both met working at a stall. Entertaining Mr. Sloane at the Greenwich Theatre.
Born on June 3, 1949 in the United Kingdom, Gerlder had a 50-year acting career in theater, television and film, but one of his most recent roles playing Kevan Lannister in the famous series game of Thrones (Game of Thrones) put him in the spotlight of world fame.
His last appearance on television was this year, in an episode of Father Brown. He is also remembered for his participation in the British science fiction program Doctor Whoand its spin-off in Torchwood. And he was part of a television adaptation of His Dark MaterialsPhilip Pullman’s trilogy of fantasy novels.
His role in Game of Thrones
Gelder participated in the famous HBO series game of Thrones. He appeared from the first season in at least 12 episodes as Kevan Lannister, the brother of Patriarch Tywin Lannister.
In the first installment of the series, his character was Tywin’s military advisor while House Lannister fought against House Stark. He reprized the role of Kevan Lannister in the fifth season, and his character was murdered at the end of season six along with many others, when his niece, Cersei Lannister, blows up the Sept of Baelor.
