The series of ‘The Last of Us‘ has been one of the great successes of recent times for HBO, an adaptation of the video game that has masterfully demonstrated all the potential that the medium has when it comes to moving to the world of cinema or series. The second season will premiere in 2025 and will be based on the second installment of the saga, but it may go further and, as happened with season 1, expand stories that had not been seen as such in the game. During an interview with Comicbook, Craig Mazin, one of the creators of the series, highlighted that “unseen stories” will be explored.

“As a fan, I am delighted that there could be a third The Last of Us game. As the co-creator of this television series, there is no world where I would want our series to go beyond the source material that people have in the world. Our series, as people know it at HBO, is going to cover the material from the second game and then a lot of material that is relevant to that story but, as I said, wanders down interesting new paths, untold stories that were told within from the context of that game’s material.”

The power of telling stories in ‘The Last of Us’

One of the most remembered chapters of the first season of ‘The Last of Us’ is the one that dealt with Bill and Frank, taking a character from the game, Bill, and expanding his story in a way that we did not see in the original work. A love story in the midst of the apocalypse that resulted in one of the best and most remembered chapters of the series.

Neil Druckmann, creator of the video game saga and the television series, stressed that “our goal is the two games.” And referring to his partner Craig Mazin, he noted that “there is a lot of material that we are taking our time with, and we are analyzing each piece individually to make sure that it has its own story arc, its own journey that the characters go through, but there is a broader plan that unites all the seasons.”
